The Situation
The franchise owners of a restaurant chain were entering a new metro market and needed the HR infrastructure to staff their stores, launch their brand and drive superior customer service. However, they didn’t have a dedicated HR team in place.

With very little HR experience, the restaurant’s leadership needed to quickly hire hundreds of employees to staff their first 20+ stores, which opened in a tight labor market. They needed to identify roles, responsibilities and key competencies, as well as performance management tools to ensure accountability. And of course, they wanted all this to align with their unique brand reputation for healthy food and great service.

The inTalent team realized the best way to tackle this challenge was to really understand what success looked like in these restaurants. Spending time in the restaurant and talking at length to the owners was key to understanding what was important to the business and the value proposition regarding their brand. After carefully documenting the job skills that would be required for the employees to best represent the brand, inTalent created job descriptions that spelled out key expectations for hourly and salaried jobs throughout the organization and developed performance reviews that reinforced the key expectations.
